Chamber of the Eerste Kamer read aloud (this opens a new window)

When entering the chamber of the Eerste Kamer (Dutch Senate), the ceiling immediately catches the eye: the Goddess of Peace, holding a pigeon, the God of War, Mars, in armour and many nations all looking down on the States of Holland with interest. In 1651, Johan de Witt had this large room built specially for the meetings of the States of Holland. The Senate has gathered in this chamber since 1849.
