European Affairs

The Dutch government negotiates with other European governments on new Europeans laws and regulations. The House of Representatives monitors the development of European measures and the government's involvement in these negotiations. For instance, the House of Representatives debates with the government during these negotiations on European laws and regulations. The House can also exercise direct influence on European plans, for example by consulting with the European Commission or with members of the European Parliament. The committee on European Affairs points other committees in the House towards the relevant European developments in their policy areas, and advices them on these developments. The committee also serves as the point of contact on European issues for other member states of the European Union and the European Parliament.
