Commemoration Orange hotel 
On Saturday 26 September, President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Gerdi Verbeet and Speaker of the Senate, Ms. Yvonne Timmerman-Buck laid a wreath at death cell 601 (Doodencel 601) in Scheveningen. The old Scheveningen jail called Orange Hotel (Oranje Hotel) housed Dutch citizens during the Second World War. The Dutch minister of Justice, Mr. Hirsch Ballin opened the ceremony with a speech. Followed by a silent walk past the death cell.
Second World War
During the Second World War, approximately 26.000 to 30.000 Dutch citizens were interrogated and brought to trial. Since 1946, the annual commemoration is held on the last Saturday or the first Saturday of October.
