    a sporty opening

    of the parliamentary year

    Look, look, look.

    A brilliant attack.

Debating is not the only thing

    politicians are good at.

Proof of that is the sporty opening of

the parliamentary year on September 9.

    Politicians competed against a youth

team in a football and a hockey match.

    Applause, ladies and gentlemen.

    It was a great success.

    We won.

The Olympic thought is 'winning is more

    important than competing' or something.

    In any case: We won.

    Is there a similarity

    between sports and politics?

There is. Play on the ball, don't go

for the man, I'd like to say in the House.

    So that's a similarity.

But you also want to score.

And that's what we want in sports

    as well: Be the best.

The matches are meant to open the new

parliamentary year in a healthy fashion.

A unique moment to fix the attention

on the importance of sports in society.

It's about respect for each other,

    but also about obesity.

Moreover, we want to work our way

to the Olympic Games of 2028.

To achieve that, the entire country

    must become sports minded.

After the matches Verbeet and Terpstra

    chaired several debates...

on the importance of sports in society.

    The theme was:

    Sports clubs as an entrance

    to the Dutch society.

    All those present

spoke about the role of sports...

    in preventing radicalization

    of youngsters...

    and about the participation

of the new Dutchwoman in sports.

    It's a great initiative

to speak with a number of people...

about how we can give sports

a more important role in society.

    I'd rather practise sports separately,

    also because of religious beliefs.

The Islam does not allow men and

    women to practise sports together.

    Women

    have to practise sports separately.

Is it because you can't pay for it...

or because you are not used to pay

    for practising sports?

It's an issue of not being able

    to pay for it.

    The matches and the debates

    stimulate the appetite.

At the end of the day people could enjoy

    a Hindu meal.
