President House of Representatives received female Presidents of Houses of Representatives. read aloud (this opens a new window)

Presidents Ms. B. Prammer of the Austrian Parliament, Ms. E. Ergma ( Estonia), Ms. K. Szili (Hungary) and Ms. Gerdi Verbeet meet regularly. During these meetings, they exchange experiences and discuss the developments in their national Parliaments as well as the cooperation between the Parliaments of the members of the European Union. 

Topics of conversation during the meeting in Amsterdam were interparliamentary cooperation and the role of women in intercultural dialogue, among others. At the end of 2007, the European Council and the European Parliament have declared 2008 the year of the intercultural dialogue, on the instigation of the European Committee. The meeting of the female Presidents fitted in with this theme. 

In addition, the Presidents looked back on the theme ‘Women in politics’. At the request of the female Presidents, this theme was put on the agenda during the conference for Presidents of the Parliaments of the European Union in June 2008 . 

On Saturday August 16, the Presidents were received for dinner in the official residence of the mayor of Amsterdam, Mr J. Cohen.
