Round-table discussion on MH17
On Friday 22 January the House of Representatives hold round-table discussions on the MH17 disaster. These round table-discussions focus on the Cabinet response to the investigation reports about the plane, which was downed by a missile.
On 17 July 2014 Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was downed. The plane crashed in Eastern Ukraine. All 298 passengers were killed, 196 of whom were Dutch nationals.
The Cabinet response
Several institutions have carried out an investigation into the MH17 disaster. Meanwhile, the Cabinet has issued a response to the investigation reports. All parliamentary documents about the issue can be found here (in Dutch). This file of documents is continuously updated.
Follow the round-table discussions live
The round-table discussions will be held in the Groen van Prinstererzaal committee meeting room in the House of Representatives from 10am until 6pm and can be followed live: video or audio.
Several experts will be heard. Five round-table discussions are being held, each on a different subject.
- 10.00 - 11.30: Decision-making about flight paths over conflict areas / 11.30 - 12.00: the Intelligence and Security Services Review Committee (CTIVD)
- 12.00 - 13.00: Radar and satellite data
- 13.30 - 15.00: Investigations carried out by NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre and TNO
- 15.00 - 16.30: Crisis management organization
- 16.30 - 18.00: Prosecution and trial
Round-table discussions
Parliamentary committees are regularly holding round-table discussions on subjects in their area of interest. That is how MPs gather information and advice from various sides about the plans and positions of the Cabinet. The advantage of holding a round-table discussion is that the experts do not need to talk to MPs individually.
