Biography

“The freedom to make your own decisions”

The Hague has been familiar territory for me for some time. Previously, I served as political assistant to Minister Blok of Housing and the Environment and Prime Minister Rutte. During that time, I gradually became interested in becoming an MP.

I can still remember the day I started contemplating it seriously. I had just visited three families with Minister Blok on a working visit to Zoetermeer, and got to see with my own eyes how the government’s housing policy affects people’s daily lives.

Living up to your potential

I realised that the House of Representatives was the place to be for anyone looking to change the Netherlands. I want to live in a country where everyone is allowed to be whoever they want to be. A country where you do not hang your head, but straighten your back when the going gets tough. Where everyone can live up to their potential. Where people look out for one another. Where people are equal, but not the same.

Nurturing talent

While this may sound like the most natural thing in the world, it is anything but that. Giving everyone the space to make their own choices and nurture their talents requires careful attention, maintenance, and protection. Day in, day out. I feel truly privileged because of the opportunities I have been given and as an MP, I want to make sure that everyone is given the opportunities that I was.
