Biography

"Fighting for a strong and social country"

I have been a leader, group chairman, and alderman for the PvdA in Losser in the past, but the House of Representatives definitely marks a step up to a higher level. The House is where the decisions are made and the country is run. As an MP, I am committed to fighting for a strong and social country.

Greater understanding and closer cooperation

Income and opportunities are too skewed in the Netherlands, and we have let the gap grow too wide. We need more government control, because it’s a simple fact that some people and regions need a little extra attention. I always tried to be mindful of that while I was still an alderman,

and my goal as an MP is to help create a country in which people understand each other and respect each other, regardless of their income level or cultural background. I would love to encourage people who belong to different groups in society to meet and talk to each other to foster more mutual understanding and closer cooperation.

Office dartboard

I have the privilege of being passionate about my job, and I realise that makes me one of the lucky few. In my spare time, I enjoy going to FC Twente and Feyenoord matches. FC Twente matches are more casual affairs with friends, but I’ll always be a Feyenoord supporter at heart. I’m also a keen darter, and I’m even thinking of putting up a dartboard in my office.
