Contact group United States

A contact group provides a forum for (informal) contact between members of the House of Representatives and MPs of the country concerned. Contacts often take place through (foreign) working visits and visits by MPs from abroad.

The Contact group United States was established in early 2019 in response to MP Van Helvert's motion which noted that the United States is one of the Netherlands' most important political, economic, military and cultural allies. It was also noted that members of Congress from the United States Congressional Caucus on the Kingdom of the Netherlands (formerly the Dutch Caucus) and members of the House of Representatives have a need for regular contact at parliamentary level. The contact group's purpose is to maintain and strengthen these parliamentary ties, which reinforces the historical and cultural ties between the two countries. The contact group's activities always focus on achieving this.
