Climate Policy and Green Growth

The Standing Committee on Climate Policy and Green Growth mainly deals with subjects for which the Minister of Climate Policy and Green Growth is primarily responsible, such as climate policy (mitigation), improving the sustainability of industry, the Climate Fund, energy policy, mining, dismantling of the Groningen gas field, and policy participation. Issues include climate targets, grid congestion, or the transition from fossil fuels to more sustainable alternatives, such as wind and solar power.

The committee regularly consults with the Minister of Climate and Green Growth and the Minister for Energy Infrastructure and Nuclear Affairs on their policy areas. Committee members are regularly invited to attend committee debates of other standing committees when relevant for the policy area of Climate Policy and Green Growth. The committee also has regular contact with individuals, organisations, scientists, and research and advisory institutions. This is done in various ways, for instance by organising round-table talks, via working visits or by accepting petitions and letters from citizens and organisations. The committee members use this information in debates or when asking questions of the cabinet.

The European Union also plays an important role in the work of the Standing Committee on Climate Policy and Green Growth, since several climate related policies have a legal base in European regulations and directives.
