Committee debates trade and development cooporation

On Thursday May 23 the committee on foreign trade and development cooperation will have a debate with minister ms Lilianne Ploumen about her recently published policy document.

The Cabinet has approved the new policy document 'What the world deserves: A new agenda for aid, trade and investment' proposed by the minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen. In the document the government embraces three ambitions: to eradicate extreme poverty within a generation, to promote sustainable and inclusive growth across the globe and to facilitate success for Dutch companies doing business abroad.

Synergy

In the new document the government seeks to synergise trade and development policy. Where aid and trade meet, the Netherlands will be guided in its policy by both solidarity and enlightened self-interest. In the opinion of the cabinet the combination of aid and trade can be mutually beneficial.
