The House of Representatives discusses the Dutch position at the European summit

The European summit which will take place on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March includes such topics as the negotiations on the free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States of America (TTIP). In preparation of the summit the House of Representatives had a debate with the Cabinet about the Dutch position. This debate took place on Monday 16 March in the Plenary Hall.

Items on the agenda of the European summit also include the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in Lybia and the European Energy Union. The European summit is a meeting of European Heads of State and Government. Mr Bert Koenders, minister of Foreign Affairs, sent an annotated agenda to the House, in which he explains the main issues of the European summit.

Greek borders to be opened up?

The debate on Monday also was about the threats issued by Greece to open up its borders to regufees. Greece will explain its plans at the European summit on Thursday. Mr Stef Blok, minister of Security and Justice, earlier informed the House that Greece has to comply with the agreement on the European external borders.
