On 13 January, ms. Khadija Arib (PvdA) was elected the new Speaker of the House
On 13 January, ms. Khadija Arib (PvdA) was elected the new Speaker of the House of Representatives. After a plenary debate in which the 4 candidates presenten themselves, ms. Arib was elected in the fourth round of voting, with 83 votes.
Ms. Arib expressed her thanks to her fellow-MP's from the Speaker's chair. In her letter of application, she emphasized the importance of information, for both coalition and opposition parties. In addition, she mentioned all the work currently being done for the parliamentary dimension of the EU-Presidency. "The Dutch parliament will be in the spotlight the coming months. We all have a duty to make this a success", she said.
