Speaker House of Representatives visits Luxembourg

On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 January 2013 the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ms Anouchka van Miltenburg, paid a visit to Luxembourg.

On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 January 2013 the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ms Anouchka van Miltenburg, paid a visit to Luxembourg.

 

During an introductory meeting with Mr Jean Asselborn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, the Speaker discussed Luxembourg's new position in the UN Security Council and the assistance provided by the Netherlands.

 

Economic crisis
Subsequently, the Speaker was received by the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Mr Jean-Claude Juncker. Among other things they discussed the ongoing concern about the financial and economic situation of the member states struggling with the consequences of the crisis.

 

In the afternoon Ms Van Miltenburg met with the presidents of parliaments from Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Italy. Subjects discussed were mutual cooperation and the relationship between the national parliaments and the European Union.

 

Thursday 10 January
On Thursday 10 January the Speaker had a meeting with Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg. She also had a talk with the President of the Parliament of Luxembourg, Mr Laurant Mosar, about cooperation between national parliaments, followed by a meeting with the Mayor of the city of Luxembourg, Mr Xavier Bettel.

After that, a meeting took place with the committee on Foreign and European affairs, Defense, Cooperation and Immigration. During a conducted tour of the Luxembourg Parliament the Speaker of the House was informed about facilities for MPs in the Plenary Hall, such as electronic voting.
