Pensions

What has to be done to keep the Dutch pension system future proof?

Introduction
The Dutch pay pension contributions in order to be able to enjoy the old age at the end of their career. However, as a result of the ageing of the population pension costs are soaring. The group of contributers becomes relatively smaller, so how to cover the increasing costs? What has to be done to keep the Dutch pension system future proof?

The standing committee on Social Affairs and Employment holds debates with the government about (reform of) the pension system. The committee will also enter into consultation with stakeholders and experts from the pension sector, about the investment policy of pension funds, for instance.

European position on pensions
In June 2012, the House of Representatives has expressed in a position paper on the White Paper on pensions from the European Commission its concerns about a number of plans announced in this White Paper: the announced review of the IORP-Directive (pension funds) and the announced directive on the portability of supplementary pensions.

The position paper provides the basis for the action Mr Pieter Omtzigt (Christian Democratic Appeal), rapporteur on pensions, will take towards national parliaments in the European Union. The aim is to create understanding for the position on pensions of the House of Representatives in other member states.
