President of the House of Representatives presents teaching programme ‘Polderen voor beginners’

On Friday 11, during the annual Lecturers Day, the President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Gerdi Verbeet, presented a set of teaching materials made by the Dutch House of Representatives.

On Friday 11, during the annual Lecturers Day, the President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Gerdi Verbeet, presented a set of teaching materials made by the Dutch House of Representatives. The President also lead a workshop to introduce the material to lecturers, so they can start using the programme.





Project 'Polderen'


The teaching programme ‘Polderen voor beginners’ was initiated by the President of the House. “This project is meant to show youth how democracy works and how they can participate. How can you achieve your goal following democratic way? I hope it will help to encourage these young people to raise their voice.”





Meetings


In 2010, the President of the Houses lead 3 meetings with students of ROC Mondriaan, a school for vocational education in The Hague. During these meetings, the students worked with the teaching materials and experienced how democracy works. The students discovered in which way they could work out their plans. The emphasis lay on working together, searching for allies and reaching compromises.
