European Affairs
The Standing Committee on European Affairs holds debates with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs about European cooperation. Subjects covered include the enlargement of the European Union, the future of the EU, the EU's multiannual budget and the provision of information from the EU to the House. The committee also discusses the position of the EU in the world, which the Dutch government negotiates along with other European governments. It is the House of Representatives' duty to oversee the government's position in these negotiations.
Many European topics are also discussed in other committees. For instance, the Standing Committee on Climate Policy and Green Growth deals with EU climate policy and the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs deals with the internal market. The Standing Committee on European Affairs will notify the other committees of the House of relevant European developments in their policy areas and give them advice about such developments.
The committee also maintains contacts with the parliaments of the other EU Member States and with the European Parliament.
