Biography

“Finding actionable solutions”

You could argue that liberalism is in my DNA. My parents ran their own business in Arnhem. They were hard workers and had a great sense of responsibility for themselves and the people around them. The government should step in when necessary and leave people alone when possible.

Empathy

I joined the VVD when I moved to The Hague in 2000. The main lesson I learned in the municipal council was how to get things done: you need to be able to empathise with other people’s backgrounds and views.

Lawyer

My background as a lawyer and vast experience with the central government have helped me a lot as a politician, as they are valuable tools in finding actionable solutions to real problems. We have to keep moving forward together.

Cooking up a storm

Outdoor exercise is one of my favourite ways to relax: I like to go running, ice-skating, and the occasional boot camp. I also love cooking elaborate meals, but finding the time can be a struggle with three young children.
