Biography

“My truth need not be other people’s truth”

After the assassination of Pim Fortuyn in 2002, I realised that I wanted a career in which I could pursue the common good, and I developed an interest in politics. I have been politically active ever since, refusing to take a job that revolved solely around making money. My goal is to create a world where everyone can get by, which you can only do if you have a good view of society.

Building bridges

I spent a part of my childhood abroad, which taught me the value of building bridges. People are inherently social creatures, so we need to keep looking for the things that connect us. The same is true in politics, where finding common ground can be a challenge at times. I always try to remind myself that my truth need not be other people’s truth.

A carefree life

Everyone deserves to live a life without too many worries: they deserve secure livelihoods and a healthy planet to live on. I am committed to creating a sustainable future in which people can make ends meet without much stress. Our duty is to ensure that all our countrymen and women can take part in society and create a future-proof society. As an MP, you get to build the framework for this future, and while that’s a great responsibility, it is also what makes it a job worth doing.
