Biography

"You matter"

As a farmer, I have experienced just how profoundly government policy can impact people’s daily lives. And because I did not agree with that policy, I decided to roll up my sleeves and get involved. My political career started in the municipal council, took me to the provincial council, and has now seen me become an MP. I am driven by the fact that even individual politicians can have a tremendous impact on other people’s lives, and I am truly an altruist at heart.

Building bridges

As an MP, I want to stand by everyone who feels they are on their own. Hardening political divisions frustrate me, because they only put solutions further out of reach. I prefer building bridges, because that is what benefits people most.

Restoring boats

On my days off, you could probably find me in my workshop, restoring old boats and vintage cars. Finding time can be a challenge, because you need more than a spare 30 minutes every now and again. When my projects are done, I enjoy sailing on them in De Wieden, a nature reserve in Overijssel. I am also a big Formula One fan!
