Biography

“Handing the people the reins of their own life”

How I got into politics? As the daughter of political refugees who fought for equal rights, it was only a matter of time until I wanted to get involved in politics myself. I realised at an early age that you can effect change if you really want to. It took me a while to find my political home, but my search eventually brought me to the VVD and its unflinching commitment to freedom.

Individual freedom

Individual freedom is the greatest good in my eyes, and I am all too aware that this freedom cannot be taken for granted. It should be cherished and, if necessary, defended. I am proud of our excellent healthcare system, good education, equality and autonomy. We need to keep it that way, because these values are essential for any free society. For me, freedom means that people should be able to take the reins of their own lives, while those in need of a helping hand can rely on the support they need.

A safer country

My goal is to make the Netherlands a more stable, safer country, which is where my experience as a municipal councillor comes in handy. In Amsterdam, for example, I helped tackle the harassment of women, gay people, and transgender people. I firmly believe that our streets should be safe for everybody.
