What does this MP stand for?
Three questions for Bente Becker.
1. What drives you to serve as an MP?
We cannot take our freedom and prosperity for granted. As a mother of two daughters, I feel an extra responsibility to stand up for freedom of choice and safety for women. Everyone should be able to take part in society, regardless of gender, belief or sexual orientation.
2. What would you change about the Netherlands?
Politics need to reconnect with people's everyday lives. I ask a lot of questions and try to come up with creative proposals. At the end of the day, I want the decisions we make in The Hague to noticeably improve people’s lives.
3. Who inspires you?
My grandparents. They grew up in large families and had very little. They went through a lot as children and had to move to the Noordoostpolder to start a new life. Together, they built up successful businesses and raised five children. They remained grounded and took nothing for granted. I carry their life lessons with me.
