Biography

"The future depends on what you are doing now" Mahatma Gandhi

I entered politics fairly recently, when I co-authoured a vision for the future of healthcare along with Pieter Omtzigt. Before that, I had been an associate professor at the University of Groningen and UMCG and worked at Accare child and adolescent psychiatry. Research and recommendations have always been a core part of my job, but I was often disappointed by the end result. Time and time again, I asked myself: what if I could make more of a difference?

Prevention

As an MP, I would like to make progress in the field of prevention to help make people healthier, both mentally and physically. Change is desperately needed, but it’s important that we chart a course based on a clear vision and start working today. The things we do today will pave the way for the future. I also love working with and connecting other people.

Running and yoga

I am a morning person through and through. You will often find me running through the meadows of Groningen and I also enjoy yoga. It is important to stay healthy, so my goal is to keep exercising now that I’m an MP.
