Biography
“I am a people person and a lover of facts”
A few years ago, De Stentor published a diptych in which I represented reason and Caroline van der Plas stood for emotion. We chatted a little afterwards and discovered we had great rapport. That’s why I did not hesitate for long when she asked me to run for BBB.
Bringing figures to life
Having spent 33 years with CBS (Statistics Netherlands), specialising in agriculture, nature, energy, climate, rural areas, public space, and more. I am a keen lover of facts and figures. During my time there, I also served as a press officer, because I love bringing boring facts and statistics to life. I truly abhor political polarisation: I am a people person and a lover of facts. You cannot make balanced political calls without broad factual knowledge.
Natural farmer
While facts and figures excite me, so does nature. My wife and our two eldest children run a multifunctional farm. Our fields are home to a handful of Lakenvelder cows and sheep, and we also have group accommodation and a day activity centre at the farm. In my spare time, I love playing football on the beach and going into the mountains. Hiking in the Dolomites or in Norway are some of my favourite holidays.
