Biography

“I bring Faith to the House of Representatives"

Politics should reflect society, and yet there is a huge gap between the Dutch populace and its House of Representatives. Our country is run from a bubble, and we need politicians who are more in touch with the people. In recent years, we have ended up in a vicious cycle of laws, regulations and policies that have unrecognised and unintended consequences for people’s lives.

A listening ear

I have first-hand experience of that distinct lack of humanity. As a child, I was placed out of home by child welfare services, and it struck me how no one offered a real listening ear. You find yourself dealing with a faceless organisation, rather than an actual person.

Change

When I fell victim to the benefits scandal, the same problems re-emerged, sparking my collaboration with Pieter Omtzigt. When he talked to people, he actually listened to them.

Power

Spurred on by my experiences, my innate sense of justice and the conviction that the system works against the people, not for the people, I decided to study law. Now, I can combine my experiential knowledge with my academic knowledge to help other people and myself to stand up for, protect and safeguard our rights.

Faith

What’s in a name? Well, I do hope to bring Faith to the House of Representatives on behalf of my party. Faith and hope are an important part of politics. We need a system in which people feel heard, that people can trust, and that truly serves society.
