What does this MP stand for?
Three questions for Esmah Lahlah.
1. What drives you to serve as an MP?
I am determined to tackle poverty and fight inequality. As an alderman I kept running up against the limits of my powers and The Hague is the place to be if you want to change the law. I entered parliament to reform the Participation Act.
2. What would you change about the Netherlands?
I want politics to work for everyone. It should not be about people, but with people. The voices of the most vulnerable in society need to be heard in politics. My motto is: "Without a place to belong, there cannot be security in life".
3. Who inspires you?
My grandmother Fatna. She showed in both words and deeds what solidarity and looking out for one another really mean. She practiced what she preached and I hope to come as close to that as I can.
