What does this MP stand for?

Three questions for Jeltje Straatman.

1. What drives you to serve as an MP?

I have been interested in politics from an early age. I deliberately started my career outside politics, choosing to be a lawyer first. Now, I want to contribute to society in a more direct way.

2. What would you change about the Netherlands?

Two things. I want to be a voice for young people. I think it is important to address the issues that matter to them, such as finding affordable housing, and to give them a say. Second, I want to make a substantive difference with my legal background. I want to work to combat organised crime, violence against women and to strengthen the rule of law and legal protection.

3. Who inspires you?

I am a huge sports fan and athletes inspire me. Bibian Mentel, multiple Paralympic snowboarding champion, is incredibly inspiring to me. Despite all the setbacks she faced, she kept asking: what can I still do? That mindset can make a difference in many areas of society.
