What does this MP stand for?

Three questions for Hanneke van der Werf.

1. What drives you to serve as an MP?

I want everyone in the country to be free and safe. While that may sound self-evident, reality shows that it is not the case for everyone. That is why I work every day on ensuring more robust policing, on reducing violence against women and on improving online safety for children.

2. What would you change about the Netherlands?

Women and children should feel safe in this country. We need to recognise and clamp down on violence at home, with proper support and firm action against perpetrators. I also want to keep the internet safe for children.

3. Who inspires you?

During my study History and Journalism, I studied both Margaret Thatcher and Hillary Clinton. Both are incredibly inspiring, each in their own way. I also admire Birgitte Nyborg and the female journalist in the series Borgen.
