Biography

“Freedom should never be taken for granted”

When my parents came to the Netherlands in 1989, I was still a happy little baby. Other than that, they only had each other and their faith in the Netherlands, a land of freedom and enlightenment. After years of suffering under an oppressive dictatorship, this country, where you can be whoever you want to be, where you are free to speak your mind and believe what you want to believe, was a breath of fresh air. My history has taught me how important it is to keep cherishing freedom.

Route to the Chamber

After graduating with a degree in law, I worked as a lawyer to help protect the rule of law. The firm I worked for represented major corporations and ordinary people alike, and I learned a lot from my time there.

However, as a fervent idealist’s son, it’s hardly surprising that I ended up in politics. Whenever I used to complain to him, his response would always be the same: this is a free country. If you want to change the world, start in your city. That’s why I stood for election for Almere Municipal council and why I became an MP. It was not my first experience with the House, however, because I had also worked as a researcher for the parliamentary inquiry committee tasked with investigating the Fyra trains.

Personal commitment

The VVD's central tenets of freedom and responsibility are right up my ally. I am committed to protecting that freedom and impressing on people just how valuable it is.
