What does this MP stand for?
Three questions for Doğukan Ergin.
1. What drives you to serve as an MP?
The conviction that justice does not happen by itself. You have to work for it every day. My grandfather’s struggle, who came here as a guest worker in the nineteen sixties, is still my struggle. I want his grandchildren to live in a country where effort counts for more than background.
2. What would you change about the Netherlands?
Too often I see that origin, surname or faith determine how people are judged. That has to change. I want to live in a society where opportunities depend not on who you are, but on what you contribute.
3. Who inspires you?
Malcolm X inspires me because he showed that awareness is the first step towards liberation. He taught me that you are only truly free when you refuse to settle for injustice and that perseverance is the most powerful form of hope.
