What does this MP stand for?

Three questions for Ralf Dekker.

1. What drives you to serve as an MP?

After a long career in business, in which I often criticised the government from the sideline, I now want to participate in political decision-making and parliamentary debate myself. I want to see up close how decisions are actually made.

2. What would you change about the Netherlands?

The government should primarily look after the interests, needs, wishes and ambitions of the Dutch people. It should be less concerned with international and global ideals, which are often elusive, as well as the associated institutions. People should have more freedom and responsibility and a smaller government. We should also have a fundamentally critical attitude towards UN, EU and NATO, for example, and instead seek to promote Dutch interests, Dutch development and the interest of Dutch citizens.

3. Who inspires you?

Alexis de Tocqueville and Willem Drees.
