Biography

“You shouldn’t be afraid to get your hands dirty”

I have always been interested in politics. As a student, I wanted to be a political reporter, but I eventually joined the central government after an internship in Vienna and became an active member of the VVD. Although being a civil servant is a wonderful profession, I wanted to be even closer to the people. That’s what I am truly passionate about: making a real difference for real people.

Policy and its impact

I have sat at countless boardroom tables, where I have seen how policy can impact on real people. I have also noticed how policy-makers often fail, usually unintentionally, to do justice to diversity in society or differences between the country’s urban and rural areas. I think it is very important that we create more awareness of those differences. Safety, freedom, and equality are important topics for me and I want to protect them for our people today and for future generations.

Drive

I am a passionate, driven person who thinks in possibilities rather than obstacles. I am a go-getter who will never shy away from a challenge, and I think we need people with that mindset, especially now. I think the miles I have made as a civil servant will be very valuable in helping me review laws and predict how they will work in practice.
