What does this MP stand for?
Three questions for Caroline van der Plas.
1. What drives you to serve as an MP?
Being a representative is a privilege. You can make things better from here. It is an honour to be one of the lucky 150 people who get to do this. I will not fail in my duties.
2. What would you change about the Netherlands?
I would like to see more common-sense policy. Listening well, taking people’s concerns seriously and translating them into practical improvements. Not through extra rules, but by the government taking its responsibility.
3. Who inspires you?
My mother. She came here from Ireland in 1961, learned the language and built a new life. She was very independent and ambitious: she became a councillor and later an alderman. Her achievements were remarkable, especially for a migrant woman at the time. She inspired me greatly.
