What does this MP stand for?
Three questions for Jan Struijs.
1. What drives you to serve as an MP?
I want to connect generations, and I place great value on community spirit. For me, that means young and old strengthen one another and stand up for each other. Together they form the backbone of democracy.
2. What would you change about the Netherlands?
I wish we would stop talking about 'me' and start talking about 'us'. I also want to make our country safer. We must never underestimate the impact of organised crime, the importance of international security or how feeling unsafe can affect people's lives.
3. Who inspires you?
My grandfather, Jan Albert Hoogstad. He was a sailor who fought injustice and ended up in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. He played a major role in my upbringing. I even wrote a book about him, titled 'De vermiste vader' (The Missing Father).
