Biography

"Doch dyn plicht en let de lju mar rabje" (Do your duty and let people talk)

After studying public administration, I worked as a project officer for the Parliamentary Investigation into Investigative Methods and as a civil servant. As secretary to Mayor Opstelten of Rotterdam, I got to see the rise of Pim Fortuyn first hand. I believed in that man. As part of Lijst Pim Fortuyn, I was elected to parliament in 2002. In 2006, I joined Deloitte as a public affairs manager before becoming part-time alderman and deputy mayor in Capelle. After that, I was alderman for safety, enforcement, and public space for Leefbaar Rotterdam.

Not on the sidelines

Clearly, politics has a hold on me. I am very excited about working on JA21’s key party points: we want to curb migration and stop sending billions of euros to southern Europe because of the EU. Safety is also high on my list of priorities, and I believe we have to get rid of pointless climate measures such as getting the Netherlands off the gas grid. JA21 was not set up to stand on the sidelines.

A lover of debate

I have always expressed my political views in columns and radio programmes. When I still presented Avondspits on Radio1, for example, I loved going over listeners’ reactions to my statement of the day. While I like accomplishing things, I’m also a lover of debate. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano or going out to a comedy show.
